So are there twp parts to esxi - the install, and the config? if so, where do you keep the config? is it on the same usb?Ģ. How much ram does esxi need for my purpose?īest practices would be to backup your ESXi configuration to another location in case of a drive failure. The first link seems to recommend 16gb usb, so I'll go with that. Which version esxi? 5? 6? the latest, or 5.5?.Preferring the second link, it looks like i download the installation image, ,write bootable image to usb, boot up microserver off usb, install esxi to the very usb I've installed from ( thereby wiping the original install). THe plan is to create, say four vms with 32 gb each on the single ssd, and allocate 2gb ram to each, but i assume esxi will need some ram, so maybe one of the vms will have a bit less. Ive read that installing to a usb is the way forward. It has one 128 gb ssd and two large storage drives.
